I agree that the bow - as it is now - couldn't be better. I have said repeatedly you did a great job and that was and is my honest opinion.

But I'm still as unenlightened as before: It was not a stave, you laminated it. So you could shape the stave to your liking. Why did you make a triangular profile, for heaven's sake? That was not necessary at all, it would probably have meant that only a little bit of the belly laminate would have been left at the center of the bow. So what? Is the center laminate not good enough to resist the stress on the belly? But it is from the same hickory board, isn't it?
I just don't understand...

Scratching my head.

Is your bow sinewed?

Sinewed or not - the deeper the belly, the more stress is on the belly, and a ridge (the "point" of the triangle) is farther away from the neutral zone than necessary.

When lims are thicker, the forces on back and belly are more extreme. Sinewing reduces the stress on the back, but NOT on the belly.
That is why composites often have a horn belly.

So why is your belly (that of you bow, sorry! :D ) triangular???

I cant get thickness for limbs enaf if have made flat or oval profile.
NOW I understand the misunderstanding!
You think of the side-view profile of the bow - that is COMPLETELY clear to me, and I understand its shape.
But I thought of the CROSS-SECTION of the bow-libs, when I talked about profile - sorry that was not clear enough.

So -what about the cross-section? Your bow profile is very sensible and beautiful.

Alright

Beitrag von Taran »

I'm still not quite sure we understand each other.

So you say you can get the draw weight up faster with a deep ridge on the belly. That is certainly true, but that belly is much more stressed, it is perhaps 1/4 the width of the back. so you have four times the load.
If your wood can stand this, you've got fantastic wood, congratulations, and good luck to you.

But it still is not a design that can be reproduced safely. I doubt it is safer as regards twisting and I am sure it is more likely to suffer from chrysals.

Please keep us informed about your experiences with this bow. Perhaps it is a new invention....

Maybe

Beitrag von Taran »

Maybe the stress is not so big because of the large deflex. Alright.

But still - you could have had this in an easier way. But perhaps the bow would not have been so beautiful...

Are you going to use it for some special tasks?
What glue did you use?
